  • Awesome - I love the experience

I completed the Broadway walking tour with Joel Grey. Great narrative with appropriate music, inserted conversations and historical photos. The GPS technology worked flawlessly and was easy to follow. Great technology and content creation. It's a beautiful historical record for Joel Grey as well. We have also taken other tours and they are equally good.

  • The Coolest!

I've been checking out Detour since they were testing the app in early 2015. It really is the coolest!! It works seemlessly and provides such insight from eclectic, interesting, knowledgeable, and entertaining people. I just took the SFMOMA Detour this weekend and once again was impressed - especially since the galleries are close together, the app still worked perfectly and allowed me to take photos within the app that later showed up on my "timeline" and in my iPhotos. It's exciting to see how this app has grown and still maintained its original vision of bringing exciting voices to these tours. Definetely try this out if you're exploring by yourself or with friends (syncing option worked great in the museum!).
  • Great app and great tours!!

I'm so impressed with the quality of the tours offered by Detours. The guides are knowledgeable and local. You feel like you are getting a very personalized tour with a good friend. Also, the option to do the tour while syncing with a friend (or friends) is brilliant!
  • Fun to learn about a city - plus free all summer

I had a fun time listening to the beer tour of Portland, Or. very informative and really gets the geolocation attributes right. Also allows for you waiting to get a beer. Like having a friend show you around.

My husband and I have done one Detour in San Francisco and last week we did the River Walk Tour in our home city of Chicago. We love this concept! We have done tours in many cities and countries, including double decker buses, self-guided audio tours, boat tours and regular bus tours. But Detours is our very favorite because it gives us so much freedom. We can stop and have dinner in the middle if it suits our fancy. GPS keeps track of us, so it knows where we are and what we will want to see. If we decide one part of the tour isn't for us, like something we have already seen, we can skip it. If we choose to spend an extra long time on another part of the tour, we won't inconvenience anyone else. We also enjoy the unusual sites that these specialized tours can highlight. The Detours don't try to show us an entire city but focus on one fairly small section and delve deeply into it. If you haven't tried Detour, it's worth a try. I plan to use it every time I visit a city that offers Detour.
  • Fabulous

I live in the loop and it was wonderful to stop and really observe what I rush by everyday. I really felt the narrator's love of chicago architecture. Wonderful historic stories of relevance. I loved being able to complete the tour at my own pace. Thanks CAF for a great afternoon!

  • Superb Walking Tours

These tours are superb. I took 5 Detours over a 4-day trip to San Francisco, and I have to say that the Detours were far better than a $50 tour with a live guide I also did. The content, narrators and production quality are excellent, much better than 99% of live tour guides. Great balance between history and where the city is now, including discussions of neighborhood change and displacement that were fair, informative and moving. I did have some technical difficulties and gps-related problems with one of the tours; that might have been my own fault, as I attempted to preview a section or two and that might have messed things up. It worked flawlessly for the other 4, and I was able to get it back on track for the one I had problems with. Detour also sent me emails asking me how things were going, and responded to my one inquiry in a reasonable amount of time. Overall, I'm very impressed. I plan to use Detour again when I travel (and maybe even at home), and highly recommend it.
