I really like to use this app it help practice a new language, I’m currently trying to learn Korean, and this app helps with it. But one problem I face is that I feel i can ace a Korean test in the language but not speaking it sometimes I can and will memorize one word and forget another, besides that I would recommend getting this app to practice not necessarily learn completely
  • DuoLingo is better

I’ve had Memrise for about two years now. I’ve never liked how they break down the learning. I started French in high school and went through all four years but I want to continue learning the language and Memrise doesn’t do any of the learning techniques I’m used to. Not that I expect an app to understand how I personally learn, but Memrise doesn’t teach how verbs conjugate or technicalities in grammar. For example, I just learned the phrase “are you following?” Which they teach as: “est-ce que tu suis?” The problem is, they never teach the entire verb “to follow” so I’m in the dark as to the rest of the verb. I just downloaded DuoLingo to try it, assuming I would stick to Memrise since I’ve invested two years. Already it’s much better and I’ve had it for about twenty minutes. They offer a placement test if you already have some experience with the language and they break down your learning farther than Memrise does. They have little bubbles for pronouns and animals and verbs and all kinds of things. Go with DuoLingo.

The recent updates (7/17/18) are bomb btw- it makes the app that much more sophisticated and easy to use ————— Wow- I’m just so amazed- after about a month of messing around with this app I went premium and only do about 15-20min 3x a week (rarely more and sometimes even less). Its been about 4 months and I don’t know a lot but I continuously surprise myself when I end up whipping out a sentence or actually end up reading a sentence/word in a raw manga or off a package at a grocery store without actively thinking about the characters! I’m not one to be easily excited but when you hear yourself speak another language and you’re not even thinking about it- it’s honestly exciting and surprising. The mind is a wonderful work of the conscious and subconscious and this app helps to really get your working memory going. Japanese is not a natural language for most people and it doesn’t have much relation to English like Spanish does (not Castilian). There’s 3 sets of characters- all of which are written differently but have plenty of similarities in sound despite being different in meaning- and despite this added complexity I’m still learning. It’s been a dream of mine since childhood to learn Japanese- no matter how quickly or fluently it comes- I just want to learn, and I finally am! I love that self-development apps like this are becoming readily available to so many people for an affordable price. After all, so many of us are tied into so many different obligations and tasks that we hardly take time for ourselves. A few minutes each day for ourselves is almost a pittance, but we have to make an effort to help ourselves- and this app helps you do that. It requires a little bit of responsibility on your part to try and learn, but this app is fairly thorough in it’s deliverance. It’s a great addition to your daily life if you’re looking to slowly begin exploring a new language. It’s not as grammar intensive like taking classes would be, or as intense as being dunked cold into the language by living in a different country and forcing yourself to learn- it’s a slow, fluid process that comes playfully and easily. The types of tools they provide you is great and very helpful. Don’t expect to be dishing out a new language in a few months - if you’re a busy bee but play this app often enough and make it a point to use your skills whenever you can in real life, you’ll probably pick up a decent amount of conversational skills within 6-12 months depending on the complexity of the language. I’m looking forward to learning more. Japan wasn’t built in a day and I’m not rushing anything- I’m simply enjoying the process.

It’s great and all but you have to play, to be honest. To learn even more so yeah.

  • Too much money

I love this app and I’ve used it in the past, but it makes you pay $60 after maybe 14 words? It’s insane!! I’m not going to pay $60 for learning a language. Please make it much cheaper or even free, and until then I’ll be using a different app.
  • Take out the writing part

The writing part makes u have the EXACT way to spell it in English . It counts as wrong if I forget to add a space in beetween and I don’t like it. I personally think they should take out that part we’re u have to write Korean words in English romanization. I know Hangul and romanization isn’t good for learning . I like that they get real people to say the words. I already know a a lot and I tapped beginner just for review and this honestly has everything u need for beginner. Great app. Learning Korean btw so fun ... 화이팅
