Description

Dark Sky is the most accurate source of hyperlocal weather information. With down-to-the-minute forecasts, you’ll know exactly when the rain will start or stop, right where you’re standing. (It’s like magic.) Featured in: New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Fast Company, Wired, and more. YOUR WEATHER, DOWN TO THE MINUTE Dark Sky is able to create forecasts for your precise location, giving you minute-by-minute predictions for the next hour and hour-by-hour forecasts for the next day and week. BEAUTIFUL WEATHER ANIMATIONS The same technology that powers Dark Sky’s predictions also allows us to make the world’s first perfectly smooth radar animation. Other apps show you a chunky slideshow that makes it nearly impossible to tell how storms are moving. But Dark Sky’s radar animation lets you see the actual path of the storm: how it moved in the past, and where it’s going in the future. PUSH NOTIFICATIONS Dark Sky comes with advanced notification options: Receive down-to-the-minute alerts before it starts raining at your exact location, get notified of government severe weather alerts (for such things as thunderstorms, flooding, hurricanes, etc.), or even create your own custom notifications covering the next 24 hours for things like temperature, wind, precipitation and more. Even if you haven’t opened the app in days, Dark Sky will tell you what you need to know, when you need to know it. TODAY WIDGET The Dark Sky Notification Center Widget tells you at a glance what’s going to happen in the next hour and the next week, so you don’t even have to unlock your phone to quickly check the weather before heading out. TIME MACHINE Explore weather in the past or future. Choose a date and see historical weather data or future predictions based off of seasonal averages. APPLE WATCH Dark Sky looks great on your wrist. Get notifications and check out the weather for the next week with the Dark Sky app built from scratch for Apple Watch.

  • Forecast is never accurate

If your looking for an app that tells you exactly what the weather is at the exact moment, then DarkSky is the app for you. If you need a weather app to plan for the day or a weekend, look else where. The hype around this app is absurd. I enjoyed it at first. Then time after time, I was left unprepared for the weather. We had a snowstorm in NYC yesterday but DarkSky didn’t agree. Even as the snow started falling, the app still said rain.
  • Can’t even get the current weather right.

I thought reporting the current weather was the easy part of meteorology. I guess not. Dark Sky often reports clear and sunny when it’s pouring rain. And vice versa. As for the future weather, Dark Sky often contradicts all the other forecasts I read. Guess who turns out to be right? Not Dark Sky. The math on precip doesn’t add up. For example, today’s forecast has a 3-4% chance of precip over 6 hours. That should yield about a 22% chance for the day overall: 1 - 0.96^6 = 0.22. But today’s combined chance is 73%. Now I have no idea whether I need an umbrella.* All these issues happen way too often for me to use Dark Sky. *Hi math people. I’m assuming each hour is independent. But that assumption favors Dark Sky. Were the opposite true, we’d have to discount the chance of rain even further—making Dark Sky even wronger.

You’ve taken a great app and killed it. It’s been weeks since the new design was released, yet massive bugs exist. The bugs must be addressed ASAP, or I’ll uninstall!
  • Snow accumulation gone?

I used to love this app, however they have taken away the best feature I used to like, the snow accumulations. Please put that back.
  • Almost perfect

Love the app. Just wish the “daily summary” and “umbrella reminder” could be programmed to arrive at different times for weekdays v weekends. I get up at 5:45a on weekdays and would love to receive reports at 6a Monday - Friday but would hate to be awakened that early on sat/sun. Increased customization would nearly perfect this app
  • Is this ever accurate?

Listened to all the hype and bought the app. It has been incorrect on current and future weather the vast majority of the time. Currently telling me we are experiencing 2 to 4 inches of heavy snowfall. It’s dry and 38°. Feels like a waste of money to use a pretty app that is so inaccurate.
  • Inches of precipitation no longer shown?

The update removed how many inches of precipitation in a 24 hour are forecasted! How can I get this back?
  • Loved the app pre-update but now it needs improvement

I have been using this app for almost 5 years and have loved using it everyday (sometimes multiple times a day)! Before I continue let me just say that I LOVE the new feature which lets me get a daily report notification every morning! It is super convenient! That being said there are definitely a couple of bugs with the new update that should be given attention. When I open the app I am frequently asked to “try again” because it can’t load the data for my location on the first try. The other piece that I would love to see changed is the snow totals. Before the update if they were showing snow on the weekly forecast you could tap on the day and it would tell you how much snow was expected. This week was the first storm since the update and I was very frustrated to see snow on the map 3 days before the storm arrived but I had to wait until the morning of the storm before it showed how much snow there would be! Living in New England this is a HUGE deal, especially when I have always found Dark Sky more accurate than than weatherman with estimating snow totals. Please bring back early estimates!!!!!!!!! Will happily change my review back to 5 stars as soon as these updates come!!
  • New version weak

When it first came out I was thrilled with the elegant simplicity. But now they’re making it more complicated like other weather apps. I’m very disappointed. Will keep looking for another simple one.
  • Watch interface problems an NO customer support.

I bought this app when it was advertised as FOR the Apple Watch. Great reviews etc., and it did work then but does not run on the watch correctly anymore. When setting the “dark sky” complication to display on a watch face all you see I’d dashed lines. You can click on those lines and go to a forecast but it just goes back to dashed lines when you close out of it. Others have reported this problem in reviews, and I have sent a request to customer support and like others the lack of any response is deafening. Do not buy this app because the next bug may affect you!
