  • Could be more challenging

It is a fun and low stress learning tool, and for some that may make Babbel and excellent choice. There are a healthy selection of course/exercises to keep one busy for several months. Some of the subject areas provide good coverage while others, for example the French subjunctive only has 6 lessons which is not enough for this difficult subject. I appreciate the feature which allows you to check your pronunciation of vocabulary as it's introduced. While I think it's the best iOS app for language learning, I find that it's simply not challenging enough. In the exercises you need to spell something, the letters of the word are there, just scrambled. In most of the exercises its much too easy to guess the correct answer. I think someone using this program could gain a false sense of language learning, I just do not feel the lessons are challenging enough to translates to real world success. However I do feel there is a great framework here, and perhaps it may become a more challenging and useful tool in the future.

Duo lingo has an easy build up plan where the spelling does not get in the way of building a simple vocabulary In this one you need to be able to spell but the accent and voice of speakers is clearer Would recommend starting with duo lingo and adding this for the enthusiastic

I just purchased a 3 months subscription but all courses remain locked, on my iTunes the subscription is valid for 3 months but on babel it shows no purchase found, I sent them an email and hoping the address the matter fast

The app is great, I'm learning French from scratch and is working well, the price is great for the teaching method!
  • Pretty good, all in all.

I like how this app calls you out on your BS when you screw up with pronunciations, and I like the speed at which it moves along. But that speed also calls for repeating sometimes, more than the program calls for. So to immediately review, I have to go to the beginning of that lesson and do the whole section. A minor irritation.

I absolutely love this app, this is the best language learning software I've ever used before. I might even use Babbel to learn other languages I'm interested in as well.
  • Love the organization of the lessons

It's great to be able to go directly to lessons on the topics I'm learning in school. My only, yet large complaint is you can't replay the phrases spoken. It is very helpful to hear it over and over. Give us that function and I'd give this 5 stars.

On the phone keyboard I have to constantly switch to the punctuation and then back. I make a lot of stupid goofy typing mistakes that slow me down. I wish I could tell Babbel that I don't want to type so much. Pronunciation is very helpful but I spend more time typing. I need to SPEAK French, not type it on my phone.

It's difficult and frustrating. I'm not understanding anything after 3 months. I have many French apps and this is my least favorite.
  • Excellent learning app

In the past I had purchased, and completed, the Rosetta Stone French course. It was useful but Babbel is far superior. In particular it is very helpful in its detailed explanation of the meaning and usage of the many words and expression, whereas Rosetta is a pictures-only tool. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to self study a language.
