Mobile app is great; web app needs an upgrade
I moved from YNAB to Mvelopes about 15 days ago and am happy so far. One feature that I miss is the place tagging to auto suggest payees based on my current location. I am very happy about the Touch ID support.
Now Mvelopes needs to rewrite the web UI. The current flash based UI is painful because it lacks find in page support. Also, entering new transactions is frustrating because the envelope selection drop down is tiny and lacks intuitive keyboard searching. The user experience of the web application is akin to a 1990’s Microsoft Business application as apposed to a modern web application .
Horrible Customer Service
I am beyond disappointed in this app and the company behind it. I had heard wonderful things about it from a trusted friend and decided to give the free trial a go. Things got insanely busy and figuring out a new way of keeping financial records was not working, so I decided to cancel my account for the time, in hopes of signing back up in a few months.
Cancelling my account was a nightmare. It cannot be done online. I tried email and was told I had to use online chat. I tried that and lost the connection after being passed around. I finally got the account cancelled after tremendous amounts of run around, just to log into my iTunes account today and find that I am still being charged the monthly fee, despite my cancellation letter from almost a month ago. Of course, I can’t get ahold of Mvelopes or their parent company to fix this issue. In this day and age, it should not take this much time, effort and frustration to cancel an account.
Originally I had planned to come back and try this app again when I had time to rework the way I do our finances. Now, I have zero intention of having anything to do with this app or company, ever again.
So incredibly glitchy
Ok so this app's idea is bomb. I got used to using it and now depend on it. I've had so many problems with glitchiness. It'll forget my password and username. That's happened more times than I can count and I kept a log of this password because I thought it was me just messing it up. Also, Wells Fargo rarely syncs even close to on time. I also have issues with duplicate transactions. It's just an app that needs a lot of work done to it still. I've also had issues with transactions not matching, or the screen freezes. Just a huge amount of bugs. I always reach out to customer support and their answer is just to delete and reinstall it or completely start over again. The most recent response to having 5 days of transactions flood my inbox of duplicate transactions was "what would like us to do?"....uh, remove them?! Oh, their response to that? If it's just your iPhone....drunk roll....uninstall and reinstall....so now I have 30 of them sitting in my inbox and there is nothing I can do. Can't delete them I do not recommend using this app as it's incredibly frustrating depending on this and it glitches every time you get a rhythm going of accounting for everything.
Monthly subscription required
Was intrigued by this app download it and was unable to try because I have to sign up for a fee-based plan immediately. Almost all the other apps on here that allow you to have a basic account for free. this app requires a $4 monthly charge from the beginning.
Well you do get a 30 day free trial. My recommendation to the developer is to allow people to have like a few envelopes for free but if you want more features you have to pay. that's been the basic model for all iOS apps.
Great concept, spoiled my an acquisition.
I like(d) Mvelopes. Then “Finicity” came in to the picture. My wife and I had paid for the full annual package, under original ownership. We went through a couple-month period when we were not active. After a while, I downloaded the app. It was good, but dramatically different. Unfortunately there were technologically limitations that sent me, per their instructions to the website. To my surprise, the website would not allow me to login. In fact a sales landing page just blocked me from going any further. I contacted “customer service”. They said I didn’t have an account and that I needed to buy a plan. My app was working fine, and it still had my personal information in it, so I began to wonder what was going on. Luckily, I found an account status screen in the app showing that I was active, the plan I had, and even the dollar amount paid. I politely forwarded this to customer service. To my astonishment, after several days, they informed me that I was not a customer, and essentially told me to prove that I had paid for it. They wanted screenshots of my bank account and/or credit card statements. Folks, keep in mind this company is storing your bank account information, your logins, everything. They had nothing about my account on file, and worse than that told me, the client, to prove it — even though I had already showed them IN THEIR OWN APP, that I was. It goes on. Obviously at this point I wanted out of their database, to disassociate with this operation and revoke access to my information. So for a month, I would go back and forth and then , usually in the evening, come to an agreement. THEN every time, after some shift change someone else would come in in the morning, acted as if they had no record of the other conversations and declare the issue dead, after what amounts to bossing me around so I’d go away. Anyway, after threatening to share this experience on social, on the AppStore, and with my State’s Attorney General, they looked a little harder in to it. They said, at my insistence, that they’d issue a refund and we simply be done with it. Sure enough someone the next day conflicted their prior days statement. So here’s where we’re at now. And this one was hard to believe. They wrote last week and apologized, and said they’d refund the $96. Sure enough, yesterday, the $96 shows up in my account, AS A DEBIT. They clowned that up too. Best yet, that was from a bank account we were transitioning to another bank. That put it in the negative and generated an NSF fee. I just want to reiterate, this really happened. Do you want to feeding your account numbers, passwords, IDs, PINs, etc. to this company?
Going back to Goodbudget; App not well supported
Update: Dropping to two stars. Every since users were forced to a minimum payment plan, the app has quit working with two of my three bank accounts. One has had a support ticket open for two months. I resent having to pay a monthly fee and get even less service than the free version.
I've been using this app in 2017 and like many things about it. Took a LONG time to set it up, though. Not as intuitive as it seems to understand the way the credit card accounts work and catch up on pre-app transactions. I like it but I really miss the reporting functions Goodbudget has. I used that for all of 2016 but wanted to find something that was easier to sync. Please, Mvelopes, if you are reading this, add a reports function so we can see income vs spending and categories as percentages of spending--and on a monthly and yearly basis. Without it, I may drift back to Goodbudget.
Got subscription for 3.99 a month. Went to cancel it to go back to Goodbudget app (which is amazing) and they still keep charging me even though not using it. 😡
Paid the 39.99 and it doesn't work
I'm now paying for a free app I've used for years...and there are all kinds of problems with transactions downloaded from my bank. Won't match without an error, editing doesn't work right...I don't have the time to always get on my computer to use the program!! I need it to work with my phone. As of now, it's the worst $40 I've ever spent 😒 Please fix it!
Too many bugs in this version.
Lots of bugs in Mvelopes the last few weeks. It is not reliable.
Perfect until I bought the membership
This was hands down the best budgeting tool I've ever used. However, as soon as I purchased the membership/updated the app a ton of bugs popped up. Now transactions won't save or are disappearing, my envelopes revert to old amounts. The only fix that tech support could offer was logging out/in or a reset of the app. Once I reset the app, I lose all of my data & have to start over making this app completely useless. I'm still hoping there will be a fix soon because if not, I have to move to another app.
