Redshrike is a polyphonic synthesizer that combines a resonator designed to make more complicated sound creation and subtraction synthesis with a FM oscillator that creates violent distortion. The oscillator has frequency modulation at a wide speed from low speed to the audible range, and it is useful for creating dirty sounds together with the resonator. The waveform of the oscillator can be morphed from sawtooth wave to triangular wave and square wave. In addition, the oscillator has a 3-voice waveform generation engine internally, and you can make a thick sound by detuning it. In the resonator, not only feedback amount, but also its pitch can be modulated with ENV and LFO. Musical distortion is added to feedback. The filter has a Low parameter that can boost the bass range, and you can make a heavy sound. Redshrike works not only on the iPad but also on the iPhone. It also supports Audio Unit Extensions (AUv3), so you can plug in to AUv3 compatible host. For each screen size, different layouts are designed to be easy to use and intuitive. ## Synthesizer Engine * Oscillator - Waveform Morphing: Saw - Triangle - Pulse - Frequency Modulation: Type, Frequency, Depth - ENV(AD) - LFO - Detune (3xOSC) - Sub Oscillator * Pitch - Octave - ENV(AD) - LFO - Drift * Noise - Type: White, Pink, Blue, Pitched, Digital, Glitch - ENV(AD) * Resonator - Pitch/Feedback/Routing - ENV(AD) - LFO * Filter - Type: 24dB/Oct, 12dB/Oct - Cutoff Frequency - Resonance - Drive - Low - ENV(ADSR) - LFO - Velocity * AMP - Level - ENV(ADSR) - LFO - Velocity * Effects - Chorus - Delay - Reverb ## Features * Universal App Optimized for both the iPad and the iPhone. * Audio Unit Extensions (AUv3) You can use in a host application that supports Audio Unit such as GarageBand. * Inter-App Audio You can stream live audio directly to other Inter-App Audio host applications. * Audiobus support You can stream live audio directly to other Audiobus-compatible apps. • Deep and distinct

I’m just diving into this, but it’s a winner — it has its own character, distinct from either analog or FM synths. The resonator is unusual and I’m still trying to wrap my head around what it does. So many interesting bits like the pitched, digital and glitch noise styles; the deep filtering options in the delay; and the most customizable arpeggiator I’ve ever used. This is a steal at $8.

  • Thanks for Audio Unit

My GarageBand on iPad loves this. Also great to have an arp working as a plugin
  • Nice low-footprint synth

Iceworks has made some nice iOS apps, starting with the excellent Cassini, and offer this very affordable polyphonic synth for a few bucks, occupying only a few MB of storage space. The patch selections and sounds, however, are a little limited, and I'm not a fan of the separate offerings for iPhone and iPad (the later of which has not arrived at the time of this review). You can certainly use the iPhone version on iPad, but a universal app is pretty standard practice nowadays. Still worth a look given the affordability and sounds.
  • Broken, unusable due to audio dropouts :(

Great set of features but it's not usable as a musical instrument because of persistent audio dropouts. I'm using it on an iPhone 7 plus, so it's not a matter of having an older, slower device. I hope this can be fixed soon as I'd like to be able to use it and I'm a fan of iceWorks' other music apps, particularly Cassini which I've used constantly ever since it came out - it's one of my favorite iOS synths and doesn't have the same audio issues. Once it's fixed, it would be great to have an iPad version.
  • Another great synth from IceWorks

An iPhone only synth is a rare thing today. Especially one of this caliber. Great UI, great sounding and capable synth engine. Thumbs up!
  • Great synth!

These guys make quality apps. Definitely a unique character to their synthesis. MIDI and sync implementation is excellent.
